Building on a series of successful milestones since switching on its first live 5G network in August, Vodafone Qatar announced that it has installed three 5G WiFi hotspots in key locations in Katara Cultural Village as part of its Qatar National Day Celebrations.
The hotspots are located at Chac’Late, L’Wzaar and Sukar Pashar for a limited period until 5 January 2019 to give customers a taste of the power of superfast 5G connectivity and download speeds.
During this time, visitors to the popular restaurants and cafés can get a feel for the 5G experience by connecting to the internet through WiFi. It is hoped that the hotspots will give thousands of visitors the chance to trial Wi-Fi powered by 5G.
Although 5G-enabled handsets will not be widely available until next year, diners at these three locations can sample the superfast, seamless connectivity that 5G technology is set to deliver by tapping into Vodafone Qatar’s 5G powered Wi-Fi network through their current devices including smartphones, iPads and laptops.
The news is the latest development in a series of announcements and activities taking place at Katara, delivered as the result of Vodafone Qatar’s hugely successful strategic partnership with Katara Cultural Village, which launched on 15 December.
The “Vodafone Village” – the centrepiece of Vodafone’s Qatar National Day celebrations at Katara – has proven to be a big hit with the public, with large crowds visiting to experience a unique activation that blends culture and technology. On display is online gaming powered by 5G, as well as traditional games, henna demonstrations and classic car displays, intertwining innovation with tradition.
Commenting on the 5G hotspots, Diego Camberos, Vodafone Qatar Chief Operations Officer stated: “As we continue to make strong progress in deploying our 5G network in Qatar, we wanted to give visitors to Katara a chance to experience the ultra-fast speeds and reliable network performance that this innovative technology is set to provide. 5G will completely transform the way people live and work, delivering a seamless user experience. With these 5G powered Wi-Fi hotspots, we’re hope to give large numbers of the community a glimpse of how this technology truly has the potential to enhance and improve all our lives.”
Vodafone Qatar has previously announced 5G deployment in key locations across the country including Al Waab, Abu Hamour, Al Azizya, Al Mamoura, Al Rayyan, Salwa Road and Umm Salal Muhammed.
