According to the report of Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the total number of mobile phone subscribers in Vietnam was estimated to achieve 130 million subscribers, of which 3G/4G subscribers reached 51 million ones.
If including fixed broadband subscribers, Vietnam now has 64.2 million broadband subscribers. VNPT, Viettel and MobiFone still account for 93% of the broadband market in Vietnam.
The 4G data users were mainly in cities and towns. Mobile data traffic in 2018 reached 136,934 subscribers per month, double that of 2016, the MIC said at a meeting on broadband development in Hanoi on July 26.
However, the data traffic for 4G network on broadband 1800 MHz has been low compared with demand, affecting 4G speed. The average speed of Vietnam’s internet was 75th in the world.
Therefore, the MIC planned to auction the 2.6 GHz band so telecom services providers can boost the speed of their 4G network.
Telecommunication sale in the third quarter of 2018 were estimated to gain 96.4 trillion dongs, an increase of 7.3% from the similar period last year; generally, in nine months, it achieved 284.7 trillion dongs, a rise of 5.9%.
