VNPT Picks RADCOM for AI-Powered Roaming Assurance

Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) is changing how it monitors roaming quality. The state-owned operator, which serves more than 30 million subscribers and operates mobile services through VinaPhone, has selected RADCOM to provide AI-native, cloud-native service assurance for its roaming network.

The contract matters for two reasons. RADCOM won it through a competitive RFP and will replace VNPT’s incumbent assurance vendor. And the deployment starts with roaming — one of the most operationally awkward parts of a mobile network, where subscriber experience depends on multiple operators, signaling relationships and technologies working together.

For RADCOM, this is also a meaningful Asia-Pacific reference win rather than simply another software deployment. The deal was one of three contracts the company said it secured after the second quarter of 2026.

Why roaming is the right place to start

Roaming problems rarely arrive in neat packages. A customer can have coverage but poor data performance. Authentication can succeed while another part of the session fails. A problem may sit in the home network, visited network, signaling, policy, charging or an interconnect relationship.

That is why traditional monitoring built around isolated network elements is increasingly uncomfortable for modern roaming operations.

RADCOM says its ACE platform will give VNPT real-time, subscriber-aware visibility across roaming services while using AI and machine learning to detect anomalies before they become obvious customer-experience problems. The platform will run across multiple cloud environments and is containerized, allowing VNPT to scale assurance as traffic and services change.

That architecture matters because many operators now manage mixtures of private cloud, public cloud, legacy infrastructure, virtualized functions and cloud-native network functions. Assurance has to follow the service across those environments rather than sit beside one particular piece of infrastructure.

From alarms to customer impact

The bigger shift here is from network monitoring to service assurance.

Operators have always collected alarms and performance data. The more valuable question now is whether they can connect that data to an actual subscriber, service and customer experience quickly enough to act before complaints arrive.

TM Forum has made this transition part of the industry’s autonomous-network agenda. Its 2026 guidance on AI for observability and service assurance focuses on using analytics and AI to move toward higher levels of autonomous operations, while recent Catalyst work has shown AI agents and closed-loop automation detecting and addressing problems before customers are affected.

That is the direction RADCOM is selling into.

RADCOM ACE is designed as a cloud-native assurance layer spanning 3G, 4G and 5G, with visibility from the RAN toward the core and support for automation. For VNPT, starting with roaming offers a commercially important domain in which to prove whether that model delivers.

RADCOM CEO Benny Eppstein described the win in unusually competitive terms:

“VNPT is one of the most respected and technically advanced operators in Asia, and they set a high bar in this selection. Displacing an incumbent through a competitive RFP at an operator of VNPT’s standing is a strong signal for RADCOM in Asia-Pacific, and we see clear room to extend assurance across more of their network over time. We look forward to supporting VNPT as it continues to grow and evolve its network.”

A crowded assurance market

RADCOM is not alone in pushing assurance toward AI, automation and cloud-native operations.

Mobileum, particularly relevant in roaming, combines roaming assurance, testing, analytics and automated intelligence, including 5G roaming quality assurance. NETSCOUT is also positioning cloud visibility and service assurance around hybrid and multi-cloud telecom environments. Larger network vendors and OSS specialists are chasing the same operator problem: too much operational data, too many domains and too little time to isolate what is actually hurting customers.

VNPT’s decision should not be read as proof that one platform has won the category. It is evidence that operators are willing to replace established assurance systems when newer platforms can show better cloud fit, automation and subscriber-level intelligence.

There are still unanswered questions. RADCOM and VNPT have not disclosed the contract value, deployment timetable, specific cloud environments or measurable KPIs. Those details would make it easier to judge whether proactive anomaly detection materially improves roaming quality or operational efficiency.https://alertify.eu/5g-roaming-verification/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

For smaller operators with simpler networks, a broad AI-native assurance transformation may also be more technology than they need. Targeted roaming testing, managed assurance or platforms from vendors such as Mobileum may be more practical depending on existing infrastructure and operational maturity.

Conclusion

The interesting part of the VNPT deal is not that AI has entered another telecom press release. It is that an incumbent assurance platform is being replaced in a live, high-value domain where poor visibility becomes expensive quickly.

That fits the wider market direction. TM Forum is pushing toward autonomous, closed-loop operations; Mobileum is extending intelligence across roaming and assurance; NETSCOUT is adapting visibility for cloud-native environments. The competitive battleground is moving from who can collect the most network data to who can turn it into trustworthy, subscriber-level action fastest.

For RADCOM, VNPT is therefore more than an APAC logo. If the roaming deployment works and expands into other domains, it becomes evidence that specialist assurance vendors can displace entrenched systems as operators modernize around cloud and AI.

For VNPT, the real test is simpler: whether travelers notice fewer problems — ideally because the network fixed them before they knew something was wrong.
