Ucom Boosts uTravel Roaming Plans Across 167 Countries
Ucom is sharpening its summer roaming offer with larger uTravel data bundles for Armenian subscribers heading abroad during the busiest travel months. The updated line-up gives customers three new choices: uTravel 4 GB, uTravel 6 GB and uTravel 9 GB, aimed at popular routes such as Georgia, the UAE, Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Montenegro, Albania and Tunisia.
According to Ucom’s announcement, the 4 GB, 6 GB and 9 GB packages are priced at AMD 4,500, AMD 6,500 and AMD 9,500 respectively. The live uTravel tariff page, at the time of checking, showed 4 GB at AMD 4,990, so travellers should confirm the final price in the Ucom app before activating. The bundles are valid for seven days, making them more of a short-trip solution than a long-stay roaming plan.
Activation remains telecom-old-school, but simple enough: 12132# for uTravel 4 GB, 12133# for uTravel 6 GB and 12134# for uTravel 9 GB. Ucom also reminds customers that roaming must be activated before leaving Armenia, either through the app or by dialing *121#.
Why this matters
The interesting part is not only the extra gigabytes. It is the timing.
Travelers have become less tolerant of expensive, unclear roaming. They expect messaging, maps, ride-hailing, banking apps and hotel check-ins to work immediately after landing. At the same time, travel eSIM providers have trained customers to compare data prices before a trip, not after the bill arrives. Juniper Research expects travel eSIM package revenue to reach $1.8 billion by the end of 2025, up 85% from 2024, driven by cheaper roaming alternatives. GSMA Intelligence also says global eSIM smartphone penetration is moving from 5% at the end of 2025 to 10% by the end of 2026.
That puts traditional operators in a delicate position. They still own the primary customer relationship, but they can no longer assume travelers will accept default roaming rates. Offers like uTravel are a defensive and customer-friendly answer: keep the subscriber inside the operator ecosystem, offer a predictable package, and remove some of the anxiety around roaming costs.
Ucom’s General Director Ralph Yirikian framed it clearly:
“When traveling, people want to stay connected without complicated calculations or unexpected expenses.”
He added that the logic behind Ucom’s roaming offers is to increase data allowances, keep prices affordable and expand geographic availability.
Coverage is the real test
Ucom says its roaming services are now available through 319 operators in 167 countries. Its 5G roaming footprint has expanded to 87 operators in 55 countries, including Russia, China, the United States, Australia and India. For a regional operator, that is a useful signal: roaming is not being treated as a forgotten add-on, but as a visible part of the customer experience.
Still, the offer will not fit everyone. A 9 GB cap can disappear quickly if someone is streaming video, using hotspot heavily, or working remotely every day. And because the packages are valid for seven days, longer trips may require a second activation or a different connectivity strategy. For Armenian Ucom customers who want to keep their home number active and avoid app-hopping, uTravel makes practical sense. For non-Ucom travelers, eSIM-ready users, or people moving across several countries for weeks, independent travel eSIM apps may still be worth comparing.
Final thoughts about Ucom uTravel roaming packages
Ucom’s new uTravel bundles show where roaming is heading: not dead, not replaced overnight by eSIM, but forced to become clearer, bigger and easier to justify. The best operators are no longer selling roaming as a premium penalty for leaving the country. They are turning it into a travel product.
Compared with digital-first eSIM players, Ucom still has a more traditional activation experience and less flexibility for long trips. But it has something eSIM apps often do not: an existing relationship with the customer, local trust, and the convenience of staying on the same mobile account. If Ucom keeps improving transparency, live pricing clarity and destination coverage, uTravel can become more than a seasonal offer. It can become a smart retention tool in a market where travelers are finally learning they have choices.
