Thales and Singtel Launch Multi-Operator IoT eSIM Hub

France’s Thales and Singapore’s Singtel have joined Optus in Australia, AIS in Thailand and Globe Telecom in the Philippines to launch what they describe as the world’s first multi-operator enterprise eSIM connectivity network for the Internet of Things.

 

The proposition is simple, although the technology behind it is not: enterprises can deploy connected devices across several Asia-Pacific markets, manage them from one platform and change the active mobile operator remotely. No technician opening a payment terminal in Manila. No SIM replacement inside a vehicle crossing into Thailand. No separate dashboard for every national operator.

Built on Thales’ IoT eSIM technology and delivered with Bridge Alliance operators, the network uses the GSMA’s SGP.32 architecture to provision and manage operator profiles over the air. Devices can switch to participating networks as they move between supported countries, removing much of the manual work attached to multinational IoT deployments.

From trial to network

This launch did not appear from nowhere. Globe, Thales and Bridge Alliance began preparing a cross-border SGP.32 proof of concept in 2025, with Singtel, Optus and AIS participating to test regional readiness, remote bulk provisioning, profile switching and interoperability. The latest announcement suggests that the work is moving beyond a technical demonstration and toward an operational enterprise service.

That matters because enterprise IoT has spent years being described as global while remaining stubbornly local behind the scenes. A manufacturer might produce one connected product, then face different SIM inventories, operator contracts, roaming rules and management systems in every market. SGP.32 shifts more of that complexity into software, particularly for devices with limited interfaces or no screen.

“The solution combines the latest eSIM standards with intelligent automation. It can give businesses real-time visibility and control of IoT devices across multiple geographies through a single orchestration platform, simplifying large-scale deployments and helping enterprises achieve greater operational efficiency.”

The clearest users are companies whose devices travel or operate across borders: connected vehicles, logistics trackers, routers and industrial gateways. Utilities managing smart-meter fleets and retailers operating payment terminals across several countries could also benefit, although the commercial case will depend less on the eSIM headline and more on pricing, service-level agreements and platform quality.

What SGP.32 changes

Traditional roaming already lets a device connect abroad, so the innovation is not simply that an asset remains online in another country. The bigger change is lifecycle control. An enterprise can remotely download, activate, disable or replace operator profiles instead of accepting one connectivity relationship for the device’s entire working life.

Nicolas Bouverot, VP of Mobile Connectivity Solutions at Thales, said:

“Connectivity should no longer be a barrier to deployment. By bringing together multiple mobile operators on a single trusted platform, the solution enables businesses to scale IoT services faster and ensure seamless, resilient connectivity throughout the lifecycle of every connected device.”

Still, “multi-operator” should not be confused with access to every available network in every location. The initial footprint is built around participating Bridge Alliance operators, and enterprises will want clearer information on supported modules, switching times, fallback behaviour, local data routing, regulatory compliance and whether more alliance members will join.

For a fleet operating only inside one country, this may be more architecture than the business needs. A local IoT contract could remain easier to procure and operate. The platform becomes more compelling when devices are expensive to access physically, remain deployed for years or move between markets where coverage and regulation can change.

A fast-forming market

Thales and the Bridge Alliance operators are not alone in commercialising SGP.32. Telefónica Tech and Thales announced an integration with Telefónica’s Kite platform on July 9, allowing customers to manage profiles from Telefónica and third-party operators. Earlier in 2026, floLIVE and Kigen launched SGP.32 support alongside hybrid multi-IMSI options, while emnify introduced programmable profile management across its global IoT network.

That context makes Thales’ “world first” claim narrower than it initially sounds. The real distinction is not that nobody else offers SGP.32. It is the attempt to federate several major national operators into one regional enterprise connectivity layer.

The timing is sensible. GlobalData expects cellular M2M and IoT connections in Asia-Pacific to reach 1.3 billion by 2030, growing at roughly 9.1% annually from 2025, as adoption expands across automotive, utilities, manufacturing, retail and digital infrastructure.

Conclusion

The important contest in IoT eSIM is shifting from who can supply a programmable SIM to who can make multiple networks behave like one dependable service. Global connectivity specialists such as emnify and floLIVE are approaching that problem through software platforms and broad network footprints. Thales and Bridge Alliance are taking a different route: coordinating established national operators under a shared orchestration model.

Neither approach automatically wins. Enterprises will judge the result on coverage depth, local compliance, recovery when a profile switch fails and the awkward details press releases rarely discuss. But this launch is a meaningful signal. SGP.32 is leaving the standards conversation and entering the operator strategy room—and Asia-Pacific may become its most demanding proving ground.
