Swiss Post scales back mobile business

The sale of mobile phones and subscriptions has proven unprofitable for Swiss Post

The sale of mobile phones and subscriptions has proven unprofitable for Swiss Post.  As a result, the Post has decided to cancel the service at about half of its branches.

Swiss Post posted a deficit of 22.7 million Swiss francs last year with its telecoms offer. Therefore, according to Tagesanzeiger, Swiss Post decided to cancel the offer from 600 out of a total of around 1200 branches. The exit would be staggered until the end of 2018.

The company is testing a reduced offer in 20 German-Swiss post offices which continue to offer telecommunications, as the Tagesanzeiger extracts from an internal document from Swiss Post. For example, in Belp BE, Uster ZH and Birsfelden BL products from Swisscom, Sunrise and Salt would disappear completely from the range.

These would be replaced by the low-cost brands M-Budget, Yallo and The Abo.

Another plan of the post office: Customers should pay in the future for services such as the commissioning of the smartphone, installation of apps and the transfer of data from the old device again.
