SFR, Orange top Q1 fixed broadband performance tests

SFR has improved its performance in the speed ranking of the main fixed broadband providers in the French market, narrowly overtaking Orange during the first quarter, according to a study by nPerf based on 2 million speed tests.
Combining all broadband technologies, the average download speed recorded on SFR services (including the Numbericable brand) increased to 51.39 Mbps, fractionally ahead of Orange with an average of 51.15 Mbps. Including all networks, the average download speed improved to 44.30 Mbps, helped the increasing popularity of fibre connections.

Orange sees its performance constrained by a number of factors, recalls nPerf: in the HD segment, the flow rate system artificially limits the potential of certain lines, when competitors optimize the flow according to the line. In addition, Orange is sometimes the only one serving very remote areas with little flow.

At the same time, on the very high-speed, the incumbent pays for the segmentation of its fiber offerings. If it remains first, with more than 123 Mb / s, of a THD category that includes FTTH, FTTLA / FTTB and VDSL2, the average bit rate observed on the Orange (226 Mb / s) optical fiber alone remains the lowest Four operators
