Orange Luxembourg is aiming at one of the biggest reasons travelers reach for a second SIM or travel eSIM: roaming outside Europe.

From September 1, the operator is introducing three no-commitment mobile plans with international data included across up to 90+ destinations. Prices start at €4.99 a month when bundled with Livebox Fibre, or €8.99 a month as a standalone mobile subscription.

The interesting part is not simply the price. It is that Orange is moving non-European roaming closer to the core mobile plan rather than leaving customers to buy an add-on every time they travel.

Three plans, broader roaming

The new range includes:

• 5 GB plan: 5 GB for Luxembourg, Europe and the US, with unlimited calls and SMS.
• 50 GB plan: 50 GB for regular use, unlimited calls and SMS in Europe and the US, plus 5 GB in 50 destinations worldwide.
• Unlimited plan: unlimited data, calls and SMS in Luxembourg, Europe and the US, plus 25 GB in more than 90 destinations, including Japan, Thailand, the UAE, Canada and Turkey.

“Starting September 1st, our plans will be enhanced to offer even more freedom to our customers,” says Mustapha Rahem, Sales and BtoC Marketing Director at Orange Luxembourg. “With these no-commitment offers, they stay connected everywhere, simply.”

That simplicity is the real selling point. EU roaming has been normalized by Roam Like at Home, which removed retail roaming surcharges across the bloc subject to fair-use rules. Outside Europe, however, travelers still commonly face roaming passes, destination-specific bundles, local SIMs or travel eSIMs.

Orange is trying to remove some of that planning.

Mobile plan meets travel eSIM

“Our goal is to provide seamless and transparent connectivity, wherever you are,” says Rahem.

The timing is interesting because Orange Luxembourg already operates the Hello eSIM app. Rather than choosing between traditional roaming and travel eSIMs, the operator is effectively covering both behaviors: included roaming for many frequently visited destinations, with travel eSIMs available when a country or usage requirement falls outside the subscription.

“We are the first to offer a plan with data in over 90 destinations. Japan, Thailand, Morocco, Turkey… many popular destinations are included. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with total connectivity at the right price,”

Rahem adds.

There is still small print worth checking. Orange’s Unlimited plan includes full-speed unlimited usage in Luxembourg, Europe and the US up to 250 GB per month; after that, speed is reduced to 512 Kbps. The 25 GB allowance across the wider international zone should be comfortable for ordinary travel, but heavy hotspot users, remote workers or people spending long periods abroad may still need another option.

Luxembourg competition gets more global

The launch also creates a clearer point of difference against other Luxembourg operators. POST includes European roaming in its mainstream mobile offers but generally handles non-European travel through separate Around the World options. Tango follows a similar model with Voyager World roaming add-ons, including destination-based data packs and a daily option for dozens of non-EU countries.

That does not make travel eSIMs obsolete. A dedicated eSIM can still make more sense for a short trip, a specific country with better-value data, a second network for backup, or travelers who do not want to change their domestic plan.

But Orange is attacking one of the category’s strongest advantages: predictable connectivity before the traveler even lands.

Conclusion

The bigger story is that the line between a domestic mobile subscription and a travel connectivity product is starting to disappear.

For years, European operators made roaming beyond regulated EU markets something customers had to add separately, while travel eSIM providers grew by making international data easier to buy and understand. Orange Luxembourg is now bringing part of that travel-eSIM logic into the monthly plan itself.

If POST, Tango and other operators answer with more included non-EU data rather than simply cheaper passes, Luxembourg could become a useful test market for where roaming is heading next: not eliminated, but increasingly bundled into the subscription.
