Here is how the app works. First, download the iOS or Android version of the app. Once that is done, you can request a local or toll-free number covering the U.S. and Canada. If you already have a second phone using a business number, no worries! That number can be ported over to the app. And that is all there is to it. You can use OpenPhone to make calls or send texts to any number in the United States or Canada.

The phone service uses VoIP, so all communications for your business number are sent and received over the internet. Now we do have to point out that the service will cost you $9.99 per month, but that includes unlimited calls and texts. And with the app, you’ll be able to retire that second handset and still know immediately when a call is for you personally or for your business. OpenPhone also allows you to read transcripts of your voicemail. You can set your business hours by using the Android Do Not Disturb feature or the app.

And wherever you have an internet connection, you’re in business. While there are other apps that are similar, OpenPhone wants to focus on small companies with 20 employees or less.
