Jetpac has launched Jetpac Eterna, a travel eSIM designed to solve a very specific problem: the awkward few minutes after landing, when a traveller needs a map, a message or a ride before they have sorted out mobile data.

The proposition sounds almost suspiciously simple. Claim the eSIM once, install it before travelling and keep it on the phone. On eligible international trips, Eterna reconnects automatically and provides 100 MB of free general data, plus access to WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber and Grab without requiring a paid data pack.

That is not enough connectivity for an entire holiday. It is not supposed to be. Eterna is better understood as a digital arrival card: a small, persistent safety net that gets the traveller out of the airport and into the journey.

The landing gap

Travel connectivity is usually sold as a bundle chosen before departure: a certain number of gigabytes, for a certain destination, valid for a certain number of days. Jetpac is approaching the moment differently. It is giving away the first useful layer of connectivity and asking for payment only if the traveller needs more.

For anyone who has landed without working airport Wi-Fi, the logic is obvious. The first online tasks are rarely data-heavy, but they can be urgent: confirming a hotel address, telling someone you have arrived, checking the route into town or finding the correct ride-hailing pickup point.

“Travelers should not have to wait until after landing to sort out connectivity,” said Vineet Singh, Business Head at Jetpac. “With Jetpac Eterna, we want to give travelers a simple benefit they can unlock once and continue using for future trips. Whether they need to send a message, open maps, or book a ride, Eterna helps them land with essential connectivity already in place.”

What travellers receive

According to Jetpac, Eterna covers more than 200 destinations and can connect across multiple available networks. Its core benefits are:

• 100 MB of complimentary data on an eligible trip
• Unlimited access to WhatsApp, Google Maps, Uber and Grab without a data pack
• One reusable eSIM that does not need to be reinstalled for each journey
• Top-ups through the Jetpac app when more data is required
• Hotspot sharing when using general data
• Access to Jetpac’s wider paid services, including voice calling, airport lounges and Fast Track passes

There is an important qualification behind the phrase “every trip.” Jetpac’s detailed Eterna guide says the 100 MB allowance is available on up to four eligible international trips per year, with a two-month gap between trips. The benefit also requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone, while coverage remains subject to the destination and partner network.

In other words, “lifetime” describes the reusable eSIM and continuing entitlement—not an unlimited supply of full-service mobile data. Jetpac would improve an otherwise strong proposition by placing the annual cap and two-month condition beside the main 100 MB promise, rather than leaving travellers to find them in supporting information.

How to activate Eterna

The setup has three steps:

1. Claim the free eSIM on the Jetpac Eterna page and submit the requested details.
2. Download the Jetpac app, where the eSIM and its continuing benefits are displayed.
3. Install the eSIM before departure and keep it on the device.

Jetpac says the profile then detects the new destination and reconnects automatically, so travellers do not need another QR code for the next trip. Once the 100 MB has been used, the four named apps remain accessible for that journey, while broader browsing, email, social media, work tools and streaming require a paid top-up.

“Eterna is built around peace of mind,” added Singh. “It is not just about giving travelers a small amount of data. It is about making sure they are not stranded without access to the apps they need most when they arrive. No airport Wi-Fi, no physical SIM, no stress. Just land connected.”

Useful, but not a full travel plan

Eterna makes most sense for occasional travellers, short arrivals and anyone who wants a backup connection sitting quietly on the phone. It is less suitable as the main option for remote workers, heavy social-media users, families sharing data or travellers who need conventional mobile calls and SMS. For those use cases, a larger Jetpac pack, a local operator plan or another full travel eSIM remains the realistic choice.

There are also different versions of the “always connected” idea elsewhere in the market. Holafly’s Always On provides 1 GB of backup data every 30 days in more than 150 destinations after a Holafly eSIM has been purchased and kept installed. Roamless takes a pay-as-you-go approach: one global eSIM and a wallet balance that does not expire. Neither model is identical to Eterna. Holafly offers more general backup data but starts with a purchase; Roamless prioritises reusable paid credit; Jetpac is using free, app-focused arrival access to begin the customer relationship.

The bigger shift

The real significance of Eterna is not the 100 MB. It is the attempt to stop travel connectivity from being a product travellers shop for from scratch before every journey.

That direction matches a wider eSIM market moving from one-off downloads towards persistent connectivity. GSMA said in May 2026 that consumer interest had risen from 25% to 60%; its MWC 2026 materials also said 73% of mobile operators offered commercial eSIM service. As eSIM itself becomes ordinary, differentiation is moving elsewhere: automatic reconnection, reusable balances, backup allowances, bundled travel services and benefits that remain on the device.

Jetpac’s bet is clever. Give the traveller enough data to solve the arrival problem, make the eSIM useful before money changes hands and earn the top-up later. The test will be whether the eligibility rules remain clear and whether the zero-rated apps work as smoothly as promised across real destinations. If they do, Eterna is more than a free-data promotion. It is a persuasive new answer to the question of who owns the traveller’s first connected moment abroad.
