Iliad TOP 30 MONDO Makes Non-EU Roaming Simpler
Iliad has launched TOP 30 MONDO, a new Italy-based mobile plan that pushes one of the industry’s most sensitive topics into the mainstream: what happens when roaming outside Europe finally stops feeling like a trap?
The offer is simple on the surface. For €12.99 per month “forever”, TOP 30 MONDO includes 300GB in Italy on 4G/5G, unlimited minutes and SMS in Italy and the European Union, and 30GB of roaming data in more than 110 countries, including the EU. The SIM activation fee is €9.99, and the offer is available to new customers as well as existing Iliad users who want to switch plans.
That 30GB roaming allowance is the real story. Not because 30GB is extreme for every traveller, but because it covers many destinations where European users usually start worrying about roaming costs: the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, Morocco, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Beyond EU roaming
Europe already changed mobile travel once. Roam Like At Home removed retail roaming surcharges across the EU from 15 June 2017, and the current EU roaming framework has been extended until 2032.
But that comfort zone still largely ends at Europe’s borders. This is where TOP 30 MONDO becomes interesting. Iliad is not selling a separate travel pass or country-by-country add-on. It is packaging non-EU roaming into the core subscription. For Italian customers who travel several times a year, that changes the mental calculation. Instead of asking “Which eSIM should I buy for Japan?”, the first answer may simply be: check what is already included.
Operator answer to travel eSIMs
The timing is not accidental. Travel eSIMs have taught users to expect prepaid clarity, instant activation and destination-based pricing. Airalo, Nomad, Ubigi, Holafly, Yesim and other app-led providers have made roaming feel more flexible, especially for travellers who do not want to depend on their home operator abroad.
But operators still have advantages travel eSIM providers cannot always match: one bill, an existing phone number, voice and SMS continuity, retail support, and a relationship the customer already understands. GSMA Intelligence has made a similar point, noting that operators may be better served by competing on brand value, voice services, customer support and end-to-end experience rather than simply copying low-cost travel eSIM pricing.

TOP 30 MONDO fits that logic. It is not trying to become a travel eSIM marketplace. It is using Iliad’s existing mobile relationship to make international connectivity feel less fragmented.
What travellers get
For regular users, the offer is easy to understand: 300GB at home, 30GB abroad, and no announced price increases once the plan is activated. Iliad also says VoLTE is included where supported, while international roaming service depends on partner coverage and may use 2G, 3G or 4G in the included countries. That last point matters. Travellers should not assume the same 5G experience abroad that they may get in Italy.
The plan is strongest for Italy-based users who travel across both Europe and long-haul destinations. Business travellers, students, remote workers and families planning multiple trips could find it especially practical because the roaming allowance is already there before departure.
It is less obvious for someone who only needs connectivity for one trip, does not live in Italy, or wants unlimited data for heavy hotspot use. In those cases, a dedicated travel eSIM may still be cleaner, especially with a short validity window or larger data for one destination.
The missing layer
The offer is strong, but the next level of transparency would be network-level clarity. Which partner networks are used in Japan, the US, Thailand or Morocco? What speeds should users realistically expect? What happens after the 30GB allowance outside Europe? These are the questions sophisticated travellers now ask, because eSIM apps have trained them to compare coverage, expiry, throttling and routing before buying.
That does not weaken the offer. It simply shows where roaming is going. The battle is no longer only about price. It is about predictability.
Final thoughts Iliad TOP 30 MONDO
Iliad’s TOP 30 MONDO is important because it brings the travel eSIM conversation back to mobile operators. For years, travel eSIM brands won attention by solving a very specific pain: roaming was expensive, unclear and annoying. Iliad’s answer is to remove part of that pain inside the monthly plan itself.
This will not replace travel eSIMs for everyone. Heavy data users, tourists without an Italian mobile plan and travellers who want ultra-specific destination products will still compare specialist providers. But for Italian customers who want one familiar subscription that works across Europe and beyond, TOP 30 MONDO is a serious move.
The bigger signal is clear: roaming is becoming a product feature again, not just an expensive afterthought. And that is exactly the kind of pressure the travel connectivity market needed.
