List of phones with eSIM support (April 2026)
An eSIM, or embedded SIM, is a digital version of the traditional SIM card that’s built directly into your device rather than being a removable physical card. It’s a feature now available in a growing number of eSIM phones, which include many models from Apple, Google, and Samsung. Unlike traditional SIMs that you physically insert into your phone, eSIMs are programmable and allow users to activate cellular plans and switch providers without handling a card.
While eSIMs are a relatively new option in smartphones, they’ve been around in devices like tablets, smartwatches, and IoT gadgets for several years. For example, Apple Watches connect to data plans using eSIM technology, despite having no slot for a physical SIM card (Apple, 2022). This technology has gained traction as mobile providers and device manufacturers see it as a solution for reducing plastic waste and making connectivity more convenient, particularly for travelers who can switch plans digitally without needing a new SIM card.
The great thing about eSIMs is that it makes switching carriers and plans super easy. Compatible carriers can remotely wipe the data on your eSIM and reprogram it—no more waiting around for your new SIM card to arrive. eSIMs allow you to switch plans within a matter of minutes.
The GSMA predicts that eSIM adoption will grow significantly, with over 40% of smartphone connections globally expected to use eSIM technology by 2030. This increase is driven by its enhanced security, flexibility for consumers, and reduced costs for operators.
