The Undersecretary of Telecommunications of Chile, Pamela Gidi, and the President of the Board of Directors of the Supervisory Agency of Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel), Rafael Eduardo Muente, signed a memorandum of understanding between both regulatory institutions, where they express their intention to continue strengthening the cooperation for mutual benefit in the field of telecommunications, information and communication technologies with the purpose of facilitating the economic and social development of both countries.

Gidi, stressed that this measure will be of direct benefit to the telecommunications users of both countries. “We are talking about data and voice traffic of at least 300 thousand users who travel monthly and who would benefit directly from this measure,” he said.

The beginning of the conversations with the Peruvian government is in addition to the commitments made with Argentine authorities, where it was defined that roaming will be eliminated during 2019.

“The elimination of roaming contributes to the development of an ecosystem that, through communications, boosts economic activity, social and cultural integration, and tourism. Both countries need to boost and increase their digital economy, “added the undersecretary.

Projects covered include state-owned and private projects in the Infrastructure, Electric Power, Oil & Gas (excluding upstream), Water and Waste, and Mining sectors. Where applicable, a project is considered as such until the end of construction and ramp-up to full capacity (with the exception of mining projects, where the date of commissioning signifies the end of the project).
