With some mobile phone operators charging up to £72 per day for 10MB of data Football London has spoken with money-saving experts to try and save hard-pressed fans as much cash as possible.

Many supporters of the London giants from the north and west of the nation’s capital have already paid more than £1,100 simply to fly to Baku.

For example, EE Texts will cost 60p to send (free to receive) but for a bundle of 100 texts the company will charge you £6 for the privilege or £10 for 250 texts.

“If you’re not careful, you can rack up a bill of £100s or even £1,000s using your mobile abroad,” a MoneySavingExpert spokesman said.

“Receiving a call can cost as much as £3/min, while in some places you’ll pay £7/MB to surf the web – yet there are simple ways to slash the cost.

More than 5,000 visitors from London expected

“‘Free’ roaming in the EU has been around for a year now, and in some other countries, there’s an easy trick to get free roaming simply by swapping your SIM. it may be best to keep your phone turned off or stick to free Wi-Fi.”

With Arsenal selling around 3,000 tickets and Chelsea around 600 so far, and a handful of fans expected to make a last-minute decision to travel, there could be more than 5,000 visitors from London in Baku.

The logistics of travelling to a venue 3,000 miles away are considerable, and when you plan a big trip overseas, the cost of your mobile phone might not be your first consideration. But once you’ve booked your tickets, hotel, and activities, you probably won’t want to add any unnecessary expenses. europa league final azerbaijan

Roaming charges probably aren’t something you’ll need to worry about if you travel to EU countries – however, if you’re heading further afield to Baku, making a few calls to family or looking up information online can be pricey.

For example, the O2 phone network told us their Pay Monthly customers would be charged standard international rates as follows:

250 texts from Azerbaijan would equate to £0.50 a text making the total cost £125 while 100 texts from Azerbaijan would work out as £0.50/text for a total of £50.

5 MB of data per day from Azerbaijan would incur a rate of £7.20/MB making a total of £36 while 10 MB per day from there would be levied at £7.20/MB to make a total of £72.

Forget about roaming costs, forget about the hours spent desperately looking for free Wi-Fi connections. europa league final azerbaijan
