Sweden: European Roaming Recovers, Traffic Down 70%
Roaming is now picking up as restrictions ease, however. The ten most visited countries in Europe week 27-28 2020, compared to 2019:
Swedes have traveled significantly less abroad in the summer of 2020 compared with the same period last year. Travel to the ten most popular European countries decreased by about 70 percent in the first two weeks of July compared to 2019. This is shown by a survey conducted by the mobile operator Tre.
Anonymised mobile and roaming data show how Tre customers moved in Europe during the summer compared to last year.
– We see a sharp reduction in roaming traffic compared to last year, which was expected. Mobile traffic in France, Spain, Croatia and Austria, for example, has been down by more than 90 percent in some weeks compared to the same periods last summer. We can also see a gradual increase in mobile traffic in Europe in recent weeks for our customers, so many have probably waited for decisions from different countries and authorities to then leave,
says MÃ¥rten Lundberg, communications director at Tre.
In the first two weeks of July, weeks 27 and 28, travel to Denmark, Poland and Finland decreased by about 70 percent compared to the same period in 2019. The proportion of people who traveled to Germany decreased by 83 percent, and for Austria and France, the decrease was even greater, in some cases up to 90 percent.
The countries you had the hardest time staying away from in July are Norway and Hungary. In week 27, the number of people who traveled to Norway decreased by 65 percent, in week 28 the figure was 67 percent. The corresponding figures for Hungary are 69 and 66 percent respectively. 3 sweden roaming
