The Guadeloupe archipelago will be kicking off the winter season with the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe, its acclaimed international transatlantic sailing race that will leave Saint Malo, Brittany, France on November 6 to reach Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe, around a fortnight later.

About Route du Rhum  – Destination Guadeloupe

Created in 1978 by Michel Etevenon, La Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe is the queen of solo transatlantic races. For 44 years, it has linked Saint-Malo in Brittany to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, and brings together the largest fleet in ocean sailing on the same start line. Taking place over a total distance of 3,542 miles (6,562 kilometres), the race has become the most legendary of the singlehanded transatlantic yacht races, and its magic is ever-present through the diversity of classes and of the skippers. Great figures of sailing, both professional and amateur, come together every four years to taste “the magic of Rhum”.

138 solo sailors will set sail for an epic Atlantic crossing that they have been dreaming of for months, even for years. Some of the best solo racers in the world, professionals, and amateurs, meet every 4 years to taste “The Magic of the Rhum.”

The Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe is also a great popular festival!

The Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe is about a unique atmosphere that brings together millions of people in the entertainment villages at the start and at the finish. It unites fans and enthusiasts, amateurs, or some who are simply curious, all who come to admire these extraordinary women and men and their craft. The region of Brittany and Saint-Malo the Corsair city see their sailors preparing to take on the ocean, while the Guadeloupe Region and Pointe-à-Pitre share the honor of crowning each individual success having crossed to the other side of the Atlantic!

“This is a highly anticipated season for all our partners. The future of travel is very promising as all health restrictions have been lifted. We are ready to welcome Americans” adds Taillepierre.

The return of the Accor Group to Guadeloupe is also a strong sign of dynamism for the destination. The opening of The Royal Key, a 4-star Pullman brand Resort under Accor Group management is on the way. Scheduled to be ready for the 2023/2024 winter season, the 102-room and suite Pullman property will be combined with a high-end spa complex.
